We got to talk to Ira this morning! It was so much fun and so good to hear her voice. Some of our friends called to our orphanage to talk to a girl they hosted and that got us super excited to talk to Ira. We ended up using a very sweet Ukrainian girl going to BYU on a 3-way call to the orphanage and it worked great! We just have to be very mindful of the 9 hour time difference.
The best part was that she seemed very excited to talk to us. We told her we loved her and that we hoped to see her soon and she was very excited to know things are moving forward quickly.
As with most girls that age, we'd ask her a question and she'd answer with a very uninformative, "good." LOL We told her we'd call her again when we had a travel date so she knows when to expect us.
It made our day to talk to her and know that she is still very much wanting us to come get her. It was likened to calling home for Christmas on your mission. Very cool, but also a great longing to be there with her. Hopefully soon.
Phone calls are the best! Just knowing that you are really coming probably made her day. I know that despite our great talks during hosting and promises to come, Alex didn't believe we really would come. He cried for weeks - according to his teachers - in fact even when we told him we were coming I think he was skeptical. I chalk this up to how many times he'd been let down and promises broken in his past. When we arrived in Kiev and called is when he finally believed we were good for our word. He ran around telling everyone "My parents are here!"
ReplyDeleteThis waiting is the worst. Hang in there. You are leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else. I was the first to submit the year we hosted and my paperwork didn't get submitted until January 9th! (We waited forever for immigration!) And didn't get there until March 18th. All things considered, I don't think there's a family faster than you guys!
Hopefully this will be a nice and short "pregnancy"!
Seriously?? You had to wait 10 weeks before you flew over there?! There goes my hope that we'll be there in December still. LOL Ah well. We do what we can. :^)
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute story about Alex!
We waited ten weeks after we submitted everything to Elliana. Once it made it to Ukraine it was like two weeks and then we traveled within three. Hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteAh. We bypassed Elliana and sent it straight to Ukraine (at her request.) It will be submitted on the 30th so hopefully we'll be headed over there either in December or the beginning of January.
